Puerto Madryn, Argentina ~ 3/2/2013

* Per Carnival Cruises ~ increased rainy weather from yesterday has all roads into and out of Punta Lombo washed out, so all tours going to see sea lions were cancelled.

So the four of us, Marilyn, Deb, Marla and I rode the shuttle bus provided by the pier into town to see what there is to see.  We arrived in town before 10am and as we walked down the streets with many others cruise passengers most stores were still all locked up tight. One by one they began to slowly open.  We found a bazaar in a little park in the middle of town and did a little trinket shopping.

On the way back to the ship our noses led up into a pastry shop and we bought 4 chocolate caramel filled horns.  And along the frontage road where we plainly see our ship we found a bench and enjoyed eating them as people watched, including licking out fingers afterwards.  Yummo!

Now a little about this port ~

Puerto Madryn is situated at the center of Argentinean Patagonia on the Guelfo Nuevo.  As a perfect vantage point from which to witness the beauty of nature, Puerto Madryn has become a dream destination for nature lovers. The city also offers several attractions, from its beaches to its historic sites.  *See above map.

Situated snugly in a well-protected bay of the Golfo Nuevo, Puerto Madryn is the Chubut Province’s natural access point for the plains of Patagonia. This vast area covers one-third of the country but is occupied by less than four percent of the population. The major draw is the proximity to such important wildlife reserves as Punta Tombo and the Peninsula Valdés. Scores of visitors endure long drives to visit these amazing nature reserves for Magellanic penguins, elephant seals, sea lions and whales.
